[OPIc] 오픽 주제 "학교, 묘사하기"

이번에는 오픽 시험에서 등장하는 학교라는 주제에 대해서 한번 이야기를 해보도록 한다. 오픽 질문에는 크게 3가지의 질문형태로 나눌 수 있다는 이야기를 이전 포스팅에서 했던 적이 있다. 이번 포스팅에서는 학교라는 주제에 대해서 "묘사하기"에 해당될 수 있는 질문에 해당하는 내용들을 가지고, 실전에서는 어떻게 답안을 만들어서 대처를 할 수 있는지에 관하여 알아보도록 한다. 이전과 마찬가지로 이번에도 "시험에서 나올 수 있는 질문"을 가지고 답변을 한번 만들어 보려고 한다.

"소인배닷컴이 졸업한 학교는 성균관대학교, 그것을 가지고 이야기를 하도록 한다."

아무래도 자신이 직접 경험한 학교에 관한 이야기를 하는 것이 가장 편할 것이므로, 각자 자신의 학교에 맞는 이야기를 늘어놓는 것이 좋을 것이다. 소인배닷컴의 경우에는 서울에 있는 성균관대학교를 다니고 졸업한 상황이니, 이에 맞추어서 한번 이야기를 만들어 보도록 한다. 아마도 성균관대학교 학생들이라면 이 내용을 그대로 활용해도 괜찮을 것인데, 그다지 마음에 들지 않는다면 자신만의 스토리를 만들어 내는 것이 좋을 것이다.

학교에 관하여 구체적으로 자세하게 묘사를 한번 해달라는 내용의 질문이다. 이러한 묘사를 하는 질문의 형태의 경우에는 큰 그림에서 작은 그림으로 천천히 머리 속에서 그림을 그려가면서 이야기를 하는 것이 좋다. 이번에도 이미 알려준 기승전결식의 답변방법을 활용해서, 차근차근 답변을 해보도록 하자. 우선 질문을 들었다면 가장 먼저 해야할 것은 바로 "질문을 다시 확인하는 과정이다.

Let me tell you about my school. / I would like to talk about my school.

위와 같은 표현을 활용해서, 다시 한번 질문을 확인해주고 답변을 시작하도록 하자. 이러한 이야기를 하면서 다시 머리 속에 어떠한 이야기를 어떠한 순서대로 진행할 것인지 한번 정리를 해보는 시간을 가져볼 수 있다. 이후, 본격적으로 묘사하기로 들어가보도록 한다.

Currently, I am in Sungkyunkwan University. It's quite an old campus since it has been more than 600 years old from Chosun Dynasty. Therefore, my school has quite long history and has some monuments of historical importance in campus. When you walk into the campus, you can see Myeong-ryoon dang, 600 anniversary building, Student Centre, Library, Liberal Arts school building, Business school building and grass field which is called "Geumjandee."

개략적인 내용을 언급을 해두었다면, 이후에는 특정한 장소 한 두 곳을 꼽아서 조금 더 자세한 이야기를 들려줄 차례다. 장소에 관한 이야기를 들려주어도 좋고, 그 곳에서 있었던 개인적인 경험을 이야기해주는 것도 도움이 된다.

As for Myeong-ryoon dang, it is an historical monuments. It used to be a university in Chosun Dynasty. Students used to live here and take lectures in this buildings. However, Nowadays it's not been used for the purpose, instead it's been preserved for sightseeing and historical value. In addition, in the centre of Myeong-ryoon dang, you will be able to find very old ginkgo. The tree has been said that it has been more than 600 years.

However, in reference to Library, unlike the Myeong-ryoon dang it is state-of-the-art modern huge building. It's total 5-storied building and each floor has different books and different purpose. And also it has recently been remodelled as the brandnew building.

본문 두 번째에서는 이렇게 학교에서 특징적으로 꼽을 수 있는 두 건물에 대한 이야기를 간략하게 해주면서, 이야기에 조금 더 살을 붙여보았다. 물론 이렇게 하는 것만으로는 부족할 수도 있겠지만, 시간제약이 있는 시험이기에 적당히 시간을 보면서 많은 내용을 더 참가할지 말지에 관해서 결정을 하는 것이 좋다. 그리고 마지막으로 결론을 내려주는 것이 좋은데, 결론 부분은 간단하게 위의 내용을 한번에 묶어주는 표현이 좋을 것이다.

To sum up, my university maintains a good balance between preserving its historical and cultural identity while incorporating a modern way of living.

현대와 과거가 잘 공존하고 있는 성균관대학교의 모습을 설명했으니, 이러한 말로 정리를 해주는 것도 괜찮을 듯하다는 생각이 든다. 현대와 과거 사이에서 균형을 잘 잡고 있다는 말로 말이다.

학교에 관한 묘사 뿐만 아니라 강의실에 관해서 묘사를 하는 문제도 충분히 등장할 수 있다. 평소에는 유심히 눈여겨 보지 않는 곳인지라 갑작스럽게 이러한 내용의 질문을 받게 되면 난감할 수 있을 것이니, 미리 한번 준비를 해보도록 한다.

Let me tell you about the classroom in my school. There are some different types and sizes of classroom in my university. But, here I just want to tell you about the general classroom I took lectures. The shape of classroom is rectangle. In front of the classroom, you will be able to find teacher's table.

At the table, you also can see computer and some buttons for up and down the screen and/or for overhead projector which is on the ceiling. Sometimes professors use these tools to help students make gist of the hard concept which was spoken by himself or herself. And also, students uses that too, when they are giving a presentation during the class.

And on each side of the wall, you also can find big windows, by opening this, we can get out the stuffed air and get some friesh air. I usally try to open them since we have lots of students in the small classroom and that makes me sleepy because of stuffed air.

Plus, you also can see lots of desks and chairs for students. Usually they are arranged well on line. However, sometimes not. And at the back side of the classroom, you can find a large clock. The professor Normandin, who is in English Language and English Literature, always double checks the time with that.

To sum up, even though there are not so many things in the classroom, but the things in the classroom are quite useful and helpful for teachers and students.

아직까지 실전에서 한번도 받아보지 못한 질문이지만, 간혹 학교에서 교수님의 사무실을 방문하게 되는 경우가 있다. 이러한 내용의 경우에도 질문으로 등장할 수 있으니, 이참에 한번 묘사를 하는 연습을 해보도록 하자. 문제로 등장할 수 있는 가능성이 있는 질문들에 대해서 미리 한번 생각을 해둔다고 해서 손해볼 것은 없으니 말이다.

Let me tell you about the teacher's office I have ever seen. One day, I visited Professor Normandin's office to ask about the assignment he gave me during the class. For your information, Professor Normandin was one of the professors in my school, and actually he was in my department.

His office was in International Hall, one of the buildings in my campus, and on the 3nd floor of the 5-storied building. Since the building has been built in 3 years, that looked quite nice and clean. I just walked up the stairs to get to his office. And as getting closer to his office I recognized that the hallway was really dark since the sunshine couldn't get reached into the space.

When I open the door, I was able to see whole of his office. His office was quite simple and neat. And looked quite empty. In the centre of the office, there was only one square-shaped table for visitors, and it had 4 chairs, that means, it can contain only 3 visitor at one time.

At each side of the wall, I can see bookshelves which is standing against the wall, on each section of the bookshelves, it was filled with some books and documents. They were all about his major, English Language and Englsih Literature, and some answer sheets of students who took his course. He said that he's keeping all the answer sheets, and hand out the sheets to the students, but some students doesn't come to his office to collect them. So he needs to keep them.

And also I asked to him, "Why don't you bring some more furniture, it looks quite empty?", then he said, "I just like emptiness.", and keep saying that, since he doesn't like to have many things, he prefered not to have.

Anyway, in conclusion, that was the first impression of professor's office in my school. Maybe the condition of the office is different from the personal preference, the office I visited was quite empty since the Professor Normandin enjoyed solitude too much!

조금 길게 이야기를 했지만, 교수님의 사무실에 관해서 한번 묘사를 해보았다. 오픽 시험에서 고득점을 받기 위해서는 최대한 자세하게 이야기를 풀어나가는 것이 좋을 것인데, 한편으로는 너무 자세히 이야기를 풀어나가다보면 시간이 모자라게 되니... 항상 시간조절에 신경을 쓰면서 적당히 이야기를 풀어나가는 버릇을 들여야 할 듯 하다. 가장 좋은 것은 말을 막힘없이 재빨리 해서, 하고 싶은 이야기를 모두 제 시간에 하는 것이 가장 좋고... 아무튼 여기까지, 오픽 학교 주제에 관해서 묘사하는 문제에 관한 내용을 이 정도로 마치고, 다음 포스팅에서는 경험을 묻는 내용이나, 학교에서 하는 것들에 관한 내용을 가지고 포스팅을 진행해보도록 한다.
